Issues Strategies Action

Strategies

The second stage of the workshop focuses on the strategies that can improve workers' health and productivity over time. There is evidence to suggest that a worker's ability to meet the demands of a job can be maintained if employers and employees pay attention to four categories of variables:

The Work Environment:

Strategies that match jobs, equipment, tools and workstations with the physical and psychological needs of workers

Health Promotion and Disease Prevention:

Strategies that have been proven to prevent chronic illness, improve health and save on health care costs throughout life

Work Arrangements:

Human resource policy approaches to balance the demands of family, life and work as people age

Community Social Support:

Strategies to influence the larger community outside the workplace and leverage existing community services to help employees find the work/life balance they need

Taking relevant action in these four areas will translate to healthier, safer workers who are empowered to manage the changes that will occur as they age..
